Book of Changes series

I created handmade books based on Asian sutra formats as a Workspace Artist at Dieu Donné Papermill (New York, 1991) . I photosilkscreened lung tissue imaged by Scanning Electron microscopy onto rice paper.

Each image is juxtaposed with its form, digitally abstracted and painted with gouache on rice paper. The two renderings were embedded side-by-side into handmade paper.

Kama Sutra Series - Khoj Workshop, Modiginar, India, 1998

In 1998, I created a series of palm leaf books from palm trees on the property of the Khoj International Workshop in Modinigar, India, .

After curing the leaves, I collaged images of the Kama Sutra with text from the Starr Report and relationship self-help books.

Joss Series 1995-1998

I printed Scanning Electron images of cells onto Joss paper. These images were manipulated, extracting the edge of each form into digital line.

I was inspired by sights I’d seen in Singapore where the past & present collided in the late ‘80’s.

Parts of this series was exhibited at Nature Morte New Delhi in 1998.
