Unforeseen Behaviors

Gravity is the main compositional element for this series of paintings. The gravity behavior of particles is altered to generate a sequence of falling lines and an oscillating sense of movement. Thousands of overlapping tiny dots and fragile lines are painted, “pulling out” and enhancing the underlying composition..

Electromagnetic Drawings

These works describe the paths of particles as they move through space, creating intricate forms in a series of watercolors on paper. I developed computer code to simulate atomic particle collisions. Approaching the modification of code as a drawing tool, I alter “behaviors” of the particles such as speed, curvature and gravity. I then generate random interactions between the particles, similar to chance procedures used by Jean Arp and John Cage.

I used watercolor and gouache to paint the collision compositions on translucent handmade paper.
